Dylan Prothro is a budding professional trumpeter hailing from the High Desert. Raised in the rural town of Lake Los Angeles, Dylan’s success as a performer, educator, composer, and arranger is rooted in humble beginnings, becoming the basis of his educational style; his teaching philosophy being that artistic expression is a tool for all walks of life to learn and grow. Beginning his start on the trumpet in the 5th grade, Dylan is the product of several underserved music programs. This passion for music manifested his decision to make music a lifelong pursuit, with a holistic approach of personal change through dedication to artistic craft.
Dylan has worked in a variety of musical environments. As a performer, he has freelanced in the LA area for the last 6 years, playing in local orchestras such as the Bellflower Symphony and Santa Monica Symphony. As a composer, arranger, and educator, he’s worked with many southern California public school band programs at Baldwin Park, Littlerock, and Antelope Valley High Schools, teaching students in underserved schools in music and visual performance. Several of his students have gone on to pursue music professionally or at a collegiate level.
Dylan is currently finishing his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Long Beach State University, having studied with Los Angeles based trumpet players Ryan Darke (Principal, LA Opera), Rob Frear (freelancer, former principal for the Israel Philharmonic), and Jennifer Marotta (freelancer, US Marine Band).
